João Pedro Marnoto was born in Porto in 1975 and graduated in Photography in the United Kingdom. With 25 years of professional practice, he has developed his work mainly within the field of documentary narrative. Expanding his practice from still image to moving image, he has also been exploring approaches closer to fictional storytelling.
Through MediaUtopia, the structure he founded and within which he brings together a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals in audio, copywriting, motion graphics, editorial design, among others, he develops complete projects — from concept to final output — ranging from printed work to contemporary digital platforms.
He has collaborated with various editorial, institutional and commercial entities, such as The New York Times, Geo, UNESCO and Graham’s. Among the various distinctions and presentations, highlights include several awards in the Graphis Advertising Annual, a shortlist nomination at the Clube da Criatividade de Portugal, the award for Best Portuguese Documentary at Cine’Eco — International Environmental Film Festival, and the broadcast of his documentaries on portugueses television channels such as SIC (“Fé nos Burros”) and RTP (“Nove Meses de Inverno e Três de Inferno” and “La Grande Famille”).
His approach seeks to be an intimate exercise in knowledge and awareness, with his projects reflecting on questions of identity and the human condition from environmental, sociological and personal perspectives.
